I am Maureen Trunfio and I
have over two decades of yoga and fitness experience, having taught at
clubs in and around the Boston area. I offer:
- Hatha/Kripalu Yoga: This is considered a gentle form of yoga that is taught in a way that makes it safe for all ages and body types. It centers around asanas (poses) that gently work the body, free the breath through pranayama (breathing exercises) and prepares the entire body and mind for meditation. The hope is that through your yoga practice, healthy concepts will spill over into your everyday life.
- Children's Yoga: The idea with children's yoga is to introduce it in such a way that they will find it fun and therefore make it a life-long endeavor. Kids need not sit still or be quiet during class. Poses are taught through games and activities. Class begins with engaging breathing exercises such as bee breath and hot air balloon. Body awareness is taught through balance poses. Positive reinforcement and self-esteem building is key in this class.
- Teen Yoga: What a tumultuous time in someone's life! The body is changing, opinions are forming and most importantly life-long habits are being established. Teen yoga offers this age group the ability to incorporate fitness without judgment and competition. Breathing techniques and meditation are also useful tools especially at this age.
- Senior Yoga: Although many seniors can easily participate in any Hatha/Kripalu-style class, many have reached roadblocks that require special props and modifications. Many of these seniors have convinced themselves that they are too old for yoga and this simply is not true. With patience and extremely gentle poses, joint mobility comes back, the mind sharpens and daily yoga becomes a must for many seniors.
- Group Fitness/Corporate Fitness: For some it's difficult to get on the treadmill for 30 minutes. Group fitness incorporates cardiovascular or muscle conditioning in a fun setting where an instructor is present and encouraging you to get the job done! This can include forms such as step aerobics, high/low-impact aerobics, kick boxing and muscle conditioning classes.
- Corporate Yoga: What better way to show your employees your appreciation than to give them an hour of peace. Kripalu-style hatha yoga is great for all ages and abilities ranging from a ultra fit tri-atheletes to an individual requiring a chair to complete poses. All levels will experience a sense of accomplishment and stress release by the close of the yoga session. In most cases yoga can be done in casual work clothes and for groups under 20 a conference room is often enough space to conduct class.
- Personal Training: For those who want to learn perfect form and technique right from the start or who just aren't ready to place themselves in a gym setting, this is a great choice. Training sessions can be put together in your home or mine. Frequency can vary from twice monthly to every day. Sessions can include weight training, cardio programs and will always end with a safe stretch. Clients may also choose a private yoga session.
